1911 Census:
Bertie Cheadle, aged 14, was employed as an electric motor worker. He resided at 82, Wolfa Street, Derby, and he was the son of G. G. Cheadle, a litho printer, and Sarah Charlotte Cheadle.

Service record:
Bertram Cheadle enlisted on the 26th March 1915, giving his home address as 21, Full Street, Derby. He was employed as a boot assistant, and he was 5 feet 7 inches tall. He served in France from the 11th November 1915, joining his unit on the 14th, before being killed in action on the 1st July 1916.
Personal effects returned to his family after his death included a wallet, letters, photos, a fountain pen, four compasses, a needle case, two pencils, a cigarette tin and papers, a figure of Christ, a comb and part of a periscope.
